Karen’s Witch
Babysitters Club
Author: Ann M. Martin
Characters: Karen, Andrew, Daddy, Michel, Kristy, Mommy, Mrs. Porter, Morbidda Destiny, Midnight the cat, Hannie Papadikis, and Karen’s Grandma
Setting: At Karen’s Dad’s House
This book is about a girl named Karen. She is by her dad’s house for the weekend because her mom and dad are divorced.
She thinks her dad’s neighbors name is Mrs. Porter, but Karen calls her Marbidda Destiny because Karen thinks she is a witch.
Then one night Karen was looking out her bedroom window and she saw her dad’s neighbor riding a broom. She calls her stepsister Kristy to her room to see it, but when Kristy got there it was too late to see it. Kristy asked Karen if she wanted to sleep with her for the night.
The next day Mrs. Porter was by her herbs and Karen heard her say to her cat that she was going to have a meeting. Karen thought it was a witch meeting. The next day there were a lot of cars in front of Mrs. Porter’s house for the meeting.
Karen and her friend Hannie made up a spell. They picked some herbs from Mrs. Porter’s herb garden and put them in their pockets, so when they get in trouble, they would hold the herbs and each others hand and say the spell together.
Karen and Hannie went to see what the meeting was about and gave a speech about the people being witches, but that was a big mistake because it was a flower meeting. After that was over Karen’s Grandma was at the meeting. Her Grandma told the girls to go home.
Karen’s grandma told her dad and step mom what Karen had done. Before Karen had to leave the next day, she had to write Mrs. Porter a letter saying she was sorry.
