By: Taylor Morris
Total Knockout is about a thirteen year old girl named Lucia Latham. Her mom works a lot because her dad lost his job. Lucia is the only one at her school that really cares about the student council. She’s been president for two years and hopes to win it again. Lucia convinces her two best friends, Cooper and Melanie, to run. Melanie runs for president with Lucia since you can’t run for vice president, but Lucia is worried she will lose to Melanie.
Lucia does end up winning, but she wants to get new healthy vending machines. Ms. Jenkins, the principal, wants her to get the vote through quickly, and Lucia cheats on the student council bylaws and does it too quickly. She hopes no one will find out, but when Nicole, a reporter for the school paper, comes to the meeting, she finds out and publishes a story about Lucia cheating. Even worse, the new vending machines have horrible food, so the school is losing money.
Lucia apologizes to Nicole so she can put it in the paper, but Ms. Jenkins says Lucia either has to resign from president, or be impeached. She doesn’t want to be impeached and have to leave, though she knows Cooper would vote for her to stay and Melanie probably would, so she chooses to resign. Melanie steps up as president and holds a very unsuccessful fundraiser for the football team’s new warm up suits. The school ends up losing money! Lucia helps Melanie plan a boxing fundraiser since it is Lucia’s hobby. They get lots of people to do the fundraiser and make lots of money.
In the end, Lucia’s dad tells her what boxing teaches you and how it can make you a better person. Lucia takes this advice, and feels better. Everyone is finally happy in the end. I would recommend Total Knockout to anyone who likes a suspenseful, interesting, and great book.
| | , | | | | | I read Junie B. Jones First Grader Toothless Wonder by Barbara Park. My book that I'm reading is based on a first grader that lost her tooth and she didn't want the tooth fairy to come and get her tooth because she does not know what the tooth fairy does with the teeth. She and someone else named Herb talked about the tooth at recess. Junie B. asked her mom to put it under the pillow. Her mom let Junie B. check to make sure it was just perfect for her and it was. She wanted the light on and the door open if the tooth fairy came. She was so crazy. You will have to read the book to find out what happens.

In this book, Stink picked candy from the candy store because he had a gift certificate. One of the things he chose was a jawbreaker. He wasn't happy with it because it didn't last very long. He decided to write to the company to complain. They sent him TONS of jawbreakers. Stink started writing letters to companies to complain and kept getting free stuff. Finally his mom told him he couldn't write any more letters to try to get free stuff.

My favorite part in this book is when Ivy and Bean get tied up to a tree. They were picking on a bully's little brother and then the bully told the little brother to tie them up to a tree. Someone finally came and helped them get untied and Ivy and Bean learned a lesson not to pick on others.

Jack and Annie hid under a giraffe to keep them safe.

I like the story because Harriet, the pig has a great imagination because she thinks that pigs can fly. She thinks that she can do alot of things and she does in her imagination. It's a good story because Harriet, the pig, helps all her friends out.
| | Balstad, Anna, Grade: 1 | | School: Lannoye | Books Pledged: 20 | Books Read: 25 | ANIMAL ADVENTURES by Laura Ingalls Wilder
It was a good book. It had alot of different adventures with animals in it. One story was about Laura's Mom slapping a bear which she thought it was their family cow at night in the pasture. It was scary too, because it talked about wolves gathering around their house. They were the biggest wolves that Laura's Dad had ever seen. He scared them away with his gun. The story was sad, happy and funny at times.
